Kara Lynn Palamas (played by Maya Stojan in Agents of SHIELD) was a SHIELD agent known as Agent 33 within the organization. Little is known about her prior to the fall of SHIELD, at which point she was hiding out at a safehouse and captured by Hydra. After her capture she was brainwashed by Hydra leader Daniel Whitehall and made to work for them, typically alongside Sunil Bakshi, wearing a nanomask that allowed her to look like anyone she chose. The mask, and with it Kara's face, were damaged in a fight with Melinda May (whose face she was wearing at the time), but even so she continued to serve Whitehall until his murder, at which point she was purloined by Grant Ward. They kidnapped a technician to fix her face and eventually found a photograph of her original self to replicate, but under the mask she retained severe scarring. She was then manipulated and gaslit by Ward to the point that they kidnapped and tortured Bakshi, then attempted to kidnap and torture Bobbi Morse, who Ward had made her believe was solely responsible for her initial capture. During a firefight with SHIELD, Kara again switched to May's face and was mistakenly shot and killed by Ward, but for threading convenience and also because this was horrible and she deserved better the writer tends to amend that to being shot and wounded, then rescued by the new SHIELD where she made amends with her fellow agents, including Bobbi (amends likely involving romance, probably).
Kara appears in Marvel comics as an agent of SHIELD, where she primarily serves a historian and liaison with figures from Greek mythology (a specialty of hers). The writer has read none of these comics, but does incorporate the historian element into Kara's backstory nonetheless.
